Connecting With Nature As My Hobby - Sena Doruk
Connecting With Nature
Imagine a hobby that you find yourself, feel like you belong it, and beneficial for your mind and body. It's for me connecting with nature!
Hobbies are
activities that give people pleasure and make their lives favorable. The
things that everyone enjoys are various and subjective. I think hobbies
introduce ourselves and show what kind of life we really dream of. I am one of the
people who seek peace in life, and I realized that I can find it in nature. Therefore,
my hobby is taking care of nature and connecting with nature. Nature is where I
feel to belong and feel real myself. The factors to realize my hobby are the
experiences I have had in my childhood and the love of nature have always felt.
Moreover, taking care of nature had many benefits for me, especially
psychological, and this connected me
more tightly to nature.
We can go back to
my childhood to find out what attracted me to nature and the reasons why I felt
peaceful in there. When I was a kid, my parents decided to sign me a club in
order to have an interest area. I chose the Botanical Club out of a lot of
options. I had my own small garden in the Botanical Garden. It was there that I
gained my first experience of gardening. I grew vegetables such as tomatoes,
cucumbers, spinach, chard in my little garden. Sowing its seeds, watering them,
patiently waiting for them to grow, collecting them and all stage gave me
pleasure. We had a teacher in the club, and she taught the names of plants,
their species, their homeland. Also, I picked lime from the tree and made lime
tea, made a tasbih from the chinaberry tree, and made natural paper. I can
never forget what I did there and the joy gave me. I think the experience has
given me ecological consciousness. In addition, when I remember the happiest
moments in my childhood, I realized these events are relevant to nature. One
day my father and I climbed a very high mountain in the Black Sea. When we
reached the top, we both lay on the ground exhaustedly. It was a difficult
climb, but when I still remember this memory, I feel peaceful. I understand
that I like both the beautiful sides of nature and the difficult sides. Now I'm
continuing my relationship with nature. Every week I go for a walk in the
forest, plant fruit and vegetables, pick mushrooms under my father's guidance,
spend nights on a plateau. A relationship with nature is what feels good to me,
starting from my childhood and continuing all the time.
When I realized
that nature is beneficial for me, I explored the psychological basis of it. I
have learned that the approach, called ecotherapy, is a therapeutic approach
aimed at increasing the well-being of the human psychology with what nature
offers. Ecotherapy significantly helps a person to discover himself, liberate
and restore his self-confidence. Also, taking care of nature reduces stress,
improves mood, and improves mental performance. In that way, I realized that my
hobby why healing me.
As a result,
we must try to find something in life that is good for us. The things we like
most in our childhood are probably our interests. After we find it, we need
just do it and use the psychological benefits that our hobby offers us. Since I
found my hobby, I've been trying to spend more time in nature and build a
tighter bond with it. I suggest that everyone should find a hobby which is
felt peaceful and free.
